The sun itself if it were manifested into a person. Mel is all four feet and eleven inches of a Sunday morning out on the town. She is strong in the arms, terribly easygoing, outgoing, and always ready for whatever the day serves. Her roll-with-the-punches and down to earth attitude make it almost second nature for her to get along with virtually anyone. Grace willing, you are her friend until proven otherwise.

Mel is best described as a mom friend-flavored cowboy. She is accompanied by a soft, slight Western drawl, and would fit quite well in the boots of the sheriff of a humble nowhere town. The only thing she’s really missing is spurs and a horse. She’s friendly in that toughened-up way, like a soft, thick leather, or a pair of shoes you’ve had for six years that still hold their shape. Friendly, but not bendable. Kind, but not vulnerable.

Much of that roughened, winking kindness is driven by a spite for the fates. She hasn’t been blessed with the most fortunate life, and, with her luck, she feels as though much of if not everything that she works for will always be taken from her, in some form or another. The loss she’s experienced makes her angry, and vengeful. It’s part of what makes her so willing to be gentle, and it’s part of what makes her passionate, but it’s a part of her that hurts, and it’s a part of her she wishes she could escape. It’s difficult to always work as hard as you can to keep what you have, and never be able to feel like you can stop to breathe, lest it be ripped out from underneath you the way it always is, always has been, and always will be.

The lengths that she goes to keep this fuel for her fire unbeknownst means that it’s very rare she will make herself vulnerable, even when it might really matter, thus it can make her seem somewhat shallow in her efforts to be hospitable. Regardless, Melody tries her best, hoping, at the very least, that she can be a light to the others in her life while they’re there, for however long that may be.
