Trinkets brings warmth in the cold

“Oh, welcome back Azalea. Brought a new friend with you this time?” Edith nonchalantly said as her body turned to the shelves behind her. Azalea laughed heartily as they raised Lystel’s hand next to them, “Found this snugzi wandering around the forest! Almost hit a tree bark while walking! Seems like a funny snugzi to me!” Lystel still remained silent, his head clearly up in the clouds thinking of whatever he wants in that head of his.

“Sounds like a troublesome snugzi to me, here’s the trinkets you ordered. They were so well sewn to the dress that it was almost hard to salvage the fabric. Oh, here’s a free scarf in celebration of the Light Of Dark festival.” Edith sighed as her hands unraveled the trinkets in a well packaged box.” Azalea carefully took the box from Edith’s paws and giggled gleefully, “How wonderful they are! I can always trust the best seamstress in Eternia! Look Lystel aren’t they beautiful?” They said carefully waving them in front of Lystel, who clearly is still not paying attention.

“Oh right! Do you have anything that’ll suit Lystel here?” Azalea exclaimed, “I want to give him a trinket as a friendship token!” Edith looked at them blankly as her eyes blinked, “Azalea, I told you I’ll be closing early. I would rather go back home to celebrate the Light of Dark Festival by my fireplace, thank you very much.”

Azalea gasped softly, “Oh no, I must have forgotten! Sorry for taking so much of your time Edith! Thank you for the help as always! Here’s the plitz for payment!” They apologised as they quickly handed over the plitz on Edith’s store front counter. “Come, Lystel! To my bonfire to celebrate the Light of Dark Festival with some delicious hot coco and toasted marshmallows!” They walk away while dragging Lystel who still has no idea what is going on with his surroundings.

‘Clearly, he is rather used to this’ Edith thought to herself as she watched them walk away, her butterfly dust clouds helping her put away her needles and fabrics in her small store. “Oh, right! Edith if you ever have a change of heart come join us later! See you!” Azalea spoke in a raised voice before disappearing into the forest with Lystel.

Edith reluctantly stopped her hands holding the box of trinkets she was going to put away. She began to ponder over Azalea’s words carefully, Edith was never good in social interactions but Azalea had helped her out a few times and was a regular client of hers with their somehow odd affinity to find trinkets. “I mean… I don’t need to go. They know I like my alone time… So I should be fine- Ow! Hey!” Edith whined as her butterfly dust clouds began to rapidly slamming their bodies against Edith’s head in annoyance. Despite not having mouths they were clearly huffing at her in disappointment.

“You rasca- Hnhfsdg-” Edith choked as one of her butterfly dust clouds shoved their fluffy body into her mouth in protest. “Pattoooi! Cough cough, Fine I’ll go! I’ll go celebrate with Azalea and the rest! Now stop hitting me!” Edith whined in submission after spitting out the butterfly dust cloud. The butterfly dust clouds began flying around in circles, clearly overjoyed they managed to convince their owner in a rather unconventional way.

Edith grumbled lightly as she began digging into the box of trinkets she was holding. “Would be rude to show up without a gift during the Light of Dark Festival.” She quickly took out a purple heart shaped brooch for Azalea before pondering over what to give Lystel. “Now that I think about it, I don’t know what he would like. Well this is hard- He didn’t even say anything when Azalea offered to buy him something. Hm…”

She felt frustrated while thinking before her butterfly dust clouds collectively nudged her paw to a specific trinket in her box. A white gem oddly shaped in the form of a cat head with a clip connected to the back. “Oh, I don’t remember having this one” She said as she brought it up to her face, “He had a cat walking with him the entire time earlier wasn’t it? The cat was as white as the snow that I didn’t realise it. Well this will do.”

Edith officially closed her store for the night as her butterfly dust clouds brought over the packaged gifts for the two snugzis. ‘I hope they like it, it’s a first for me to celebrate this festival with others.’ She thought to herself.

What Edith didn’t know at the time was this was going to be a new annual tradition for her every The Light of Dark festival. Full of warmth, noise, and the sweet smell of coco and burnt marshmallows.

Who would have thought buying trinkets could change a pompi's heart about celebrating alone?
