A Memorable Night
“Loo-Loo, please! We’re going to be late, and it’s already dark!” Ciel sighed in exasperation while the only companion she’d managed to find on such short notice puttered around her rather barely lit home. The black cat snugzi rolled her eyes as she gathered up the sylk that would be needed, “You forget, you literally glow.”
“… Right!” Ciel bounced on her foot paws absently as the rather large stars on her blanki began to glow, lighting up the room dimly while Loo-Loo also managed to gather a few more snacks to take with them; mostly sweets, but a few savory treats like cashews and small blocks of cheese to nibble on since her own dream weaving buddies were always ravenous whenever not working.
“Are you ready yet?”
“Ciel, your constant questions will not make me move faster.”
“Come ON, Loo-Loo! I wanna get a nice spot!” Ciel gripped at Loo-Loo’s arm and lightly tugged her toward the large, oval shaped door and peering through the porthole window outside. Loo-Loo scrunched her maw in irritation, “Will you calm down? Surely every single spot won’t be taken because I packed us proper food.”
“You don’t know that!” Ciel took no further excuses or foot dragging and finally started dragging Loo-Loo out into the cover of darkness. Her twinkling nightlight luminescence the only light to be seen during this time, she had to hook her arm with Loo-Loo’s to keep her from tripping over any roots or foliage that might reach for their foot paws.
Loo-Loo sighed, but she didn’t fight the girl any further, instead simply walking with her and adjusting her shoulder bag so it settled more comfortably against her hip. Her swaddle pouch was already full with the little white buddy of hers that she normally kept on her head. It was so cold she had been using her blanki and pouch to keep them warm while she settled against her friend in the process.
Ciel beamed as she finally saw the tree, tugging Loo-Loo harder so they picked up their pace and started toward a clear patch not covered in snow or damp from the cold, “Perfect!”
Loo-Loo handed a blanket corner to Ciel and the both of them spread it across the spot so they could settle near the bonfire. Several other covens and different species of their world had already taken to their own small celebrations; sparklers, fireworks, even putting special powders into the bonfire that sent colorful wisps of whimsy into the air abound.
Ciel raised her eyes to the darkened sky, not seeing stars just yet, but still seeking for them. Loo-Loo handed a small bag of sylk to her companion, smiling once their eyes met and Ciel started to dig into the bag to remove clusters of the sylk into her paws. Loo-Loo had her own bag, a different color of Sylk, and they both settled on their knees while holding their respective fluffs.
Ciel held hers close, pressing her paws to her chest and closing her eyes tight. Even her stars started to glow brighter as she concentrated, causing Loo-Loo to pause in her own ‘release’ of memories. She was always fascinated with Ciel’s nightlight ability, but this was different. It was concentrated, and definitely held purpose this time aside from just being a convenience. She smiled, and Ciel extended her hands to toss her fluff into the fire.
Loo-Loo did the same, eyes closed and clutching tight, finally tossing hers in and watching the fluff raise up to the sky. Her eyes followed the embers as they trailed, dotting the darkness to resemble the stars they normally sought out together at night during the lonelier months. She sighed, and Ciel scooted over beside her, the two of them finally resting against one another to watch the magic that lit up the sky and left them in only lightly colored darkness.
Two best friends (conveniently) celebrate the Festival of Lights.
